there is a program on my computer that i did not install, and i cant get rid of. It is called SpyWaresoftstop. I tried deleting the files, uninstalling, deleting it off my registry, but it keeps popping up, no matter how many times i do this. I know it is in my computer, and yet i cannot get rid of it. does anyone know a program that will get rid of it or which files do i need to remove off my puter to get this unwanted program off?a little note...i tried MLM's answer, but for some reason i cannot access my system restore. It seems that there is something locking it out. it is also made it to where i cannot change my display backdrop (it stays on a backdrop with a windows security system infection warning on it). Does anyone know how i can reaccess my system restore and display controls? i tried using the control panel, but it doesnt work.

The proper way to remove a program from your computer is through Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel. One you start deleting its files, deleting registry entries, etc., you only compound the problem. That's tantamount to cutting off a parasite's arms and legs while leaving its head (teeth) and heart in place. You may have an issue now even when you go to try to remove the program, because when it begins the uninstallation, it will be looking for files that you have already deleted. You may end up needing to get a registry editor and repair program to complete the removal of the program.

Sounds like your computer may have a new variant of the ubiquitous Smitfraud infection. Almost all "general purpose","all-in one" spyware and virus removal programs such as AVG, Norton, or Spybot S & D cannot remove it.Free Smitfraud removal tool is here:http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix_En.php

Great answer MLM. I currently use Spybot S&D, Adaware, and AVG. On my Vista machine I use Spybot and AVG because Adaware hasn't updated for Vista yet. But it is good to use more than one malware removal tool.I would like to add another link to your list of support forums.http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ There's always a geek there just waiting for someone to ask a question. They also have some great sticky information for people new to fighting spyware.Good Luck!

It's a typical spyware, you need spybot to check for these things, although many are not harmless, you cannot remove these without a spybot program, then spybot will detect it, and put it in quarantine, hence basically removing it from your computer...things like this, spyware, starware, etc can sometimes be harmful to your computer, cuz they try to change the registry, but I suggest getting "Search & Destry", and Ad-aware.(made by Lava-soft These ones are free.Sybot-search & destroy is made by Spybot. I have Spywarebot, which I run every day, and always find some sort of spyware detected, so I just follow the directions to clean it up. This one wasn't free, but works well also.
