I can only download a trial version of that. Open Office.org looks nice, but is it a adequate substitute? My friend wants to send me some Italian words among other things and she asked me if I have Microsoft Word. Shold I download Open Office or something else? Thanks.

Have you tried google docs?
it's all on-line based... so you don't have to worry about losing it!

I myself use Open Office and I consider it as an adequate substitute. The only problem i can see is that it doesn't come with clip art, so you'll have to search for clip art on the internet.
Also Open Office is an office suite, so it comes with all the other stuff, i.e. excel, powerpoint....
