Microsoft Word 2002 - Dictionary Problme?

Hi, I am on a temp assignment and people have saved words in multiple documents that I am editing that are misspelled but do not appear in the custom dictionary and are not picked up by the spell checker. Is there another dictionary in Word that I cannot find or access?
