I lose the subscript when I format text in microsoft word 2003, SP2?

Hi everyone,
I am positing my problem again. While trying to change the formatting of already formatted text with subscripts by applying a different style, I find that subcripts don't remain in tact and they become normal text.

Can anybody on the holy earth help me with this
