In Excel, merging cells creates a cell that spans the range. It doesn't merge any existing data; it only keeps the data from the upper left cell (in your case, A1).
Highlight the range A1 thru I1. Right click, choose format cells. Choose alignment. Towards the bottom, under text control, check the box that says merge cells. |
