Default on microsoft excel how do I make a negative sign?

Is it a button on the keyboard, or do I click something?

the '-' sign is the same as the negative sign no matter what program or incident you are in.

Just hit the "-" sign and follow it by the desired number.

For example, place your cursor in the desired cell and type

-, 3,4, tab
in that order to get the value "-34"
