Default Problem with Vista?

When I add any other CD into the CD-ROM drive, it takes it up perfectly, and reads the disk. But when I try to insert my Vista Upgrade CD (legal copy), it makes the noise (From the CD-Drive, you know the loading noise), and then it suddenly becomes a little bit quieter, and then it just stops making the noise. So it's really frustrating that I can not upgrade to vista... Anyone know whats happening? Can I fix it?
It is a DVD Drive...
Sorry.

And if I try to boot from CD

And install, after I type in the cd key and press next, it says "upgrade from previous version of windows" or something like that... So I have no idea -_--

Well if you have a cd rom dirve it won't read the vista disc. The vista disc is DVD, so you'll will need a dvd rom drive to read the disc.
