Default Vista problem or hp.dv6000problem?

I'll leave my hp dv 6000 on all night, I'll come back and the monitor does not work until I turn it off and restart windows. When I restart, many of my desktop icons have been re-arranged... maybe since they were once like that, but could someone be using a 'spike' to invade my files? (heard about that on the news, the gov. uses a program to get into comps.)
