Ok, so I have been trying to dual boot my notebook. I have a Gateway MT6821, I have already partitioned my HD, allocating 20 GB for the XP side.
Now when I go to boot from the XP installation cd, i can't find my hard drive (bc I have a SATA HD). So I have to slipstream my xp cd with the drivers right, using nlite? But which ones do I put on the cd and how do I do that? These are the drivers I have downloaded: 1) Intel Controller Driver ver: 5.5.0.10; 2) Intel Video Chipset Driver ver 6.14.10.3856; 3) Intel Wireless Network Driver ver 10.1.0.13; 4) Media Card Reader ver 2.0.06; 5) Motorola Modem Driver ver 6.11.04.02; 6) Motorola Modem Software ver 6.11.11.03; 7) Sigmatel Audio Driver ver 5.10.5031.0; 8) UAA High Definition Audio fix kb888111.exe; 9) Synaptics Touchpad Driver ver 8.1.13.0; 10) Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility ver 2.11.15.0; 11) Intel LAN Driver for XP ver 8.49.2.3; Ive tried many links if someone has done this before can u provide me w exact details? Thank |

you need to be advanced in understanding details about the differences between Vista and XP. If you try to install XP from the hard disk with Vista OS, it will not response you. So you need to shut down the system and insert the XP installation CD then restart. But there are many problems due to somehow differences between 2 windows specially in installing drivers. After you install XP you must need to have VistabooPro or EasyBCD.
I had to try several times installing dual boot with preinstalled Vista, but finally I passed the test. Now I have both Vista and XP in 2 separate local drives, and use anyone whenever needed. You can try the following links about details procedure and requirements - |

I was attempting to do that last week...nlite with xp on a sata drive. Never worked. Problem? I read that sata came out after xp, so xp doesn't have sata drivers (unlike ide plug and play), so to put xp on a sata drive, you'd need a floppy and etc etc., or the nlite way. Neither worked. Then I found out, that xp with sp2 already has sata drivers on it, so you should just be able to put xp on the sata drive with no problems. In the bios, the hd should be set to native ide, not achp or whatever. In that case, sata is the same as ide (?? I dont get it, but thats what some guy told me, and he never had any problems, and it worked for me)
