Default Vista permissions for fonts- help!

My laptop has Vista and I like using font utilities for my fonts. The first one I downloaded is an old reliable freebie. For one day, it worked great and installed fonts as needed. The next time I opened it and tried to install fonts, I got an access denied message. So I downloaded one that is supposed to be compatible with Vista, but the same thing happened - when I first downloaded it, it worked like a charm. The next time I opened it a couple days later and attempted to install a font, I got a message "failed to set data for xxx font."

I've tried changing permissions for the font folder I had created - for full permissions for all users (I'm the only one and I just use an admin account) but that didn't help anything. Sigh. Thanks in advance for any help.
