Of course it is. That is, unless you have easy access to an ethernet port. My Xbox is not in the same room as my wireless internet router, so I picked up the adapter at Gamestop. It has great range, it goes through 2 stories. It has full bars. I know it's pricey, but don't try to go with that crap Pelican router. It has terrible range.

NO!!!! Do NOT buy Microsofts' wireless network adapter for Xbox 360. Several years ago I bought a Linksys wireless-G network adapter specifically designed for gaming systems, it was only $60 back then and was designed for the first Xbox's and Playstation 2. Even to this day the adapter is working great for my Xbox 360. The model number is Linksys WGA54G if you want to look it up. It connects using the an Ethernet cable from the Xbox to the unit, The only real difference is that you have to plug it into the wall for power. Anyways.. the point is that there are other options out there that can and will save you money. There is absolutely NO reason that Microsoft should be charging $99 for their wireless adapter.. they just do because they are Microsoft and it has the Xbox logo. Also, try looking on ebay or other online sources, if you really want Microsoft's adapter, you can probably get it off a source like that for a small fraction of the retail store price =)
