From what I understand, Cisco Network associates would deal with the physical aspects of networking, switches, routers etc.. while a microsoft network professional might deal more with networking via software? Are these assumptions even close? What's the difference in a days' work with a Cisco Network guy and a Microsoft Network guy. I was more interested in the physcial aspects and hardware for networking. What would be the best route?

i'd pick the better paying one. i found that tech's don't know much about networking other than setting one up beyond that they fail diagnose problem's or the knowledge to fix an issue.

Sounds like you'd like the Cisco route better (no pun intended).
CIsco is much more involved- there's routers, switches, firewalls, voice, etc. There's alot more to learn, but the pay is better at the top end. Here in California, a CCNP/CCIE with at least 5 years experience makes $100-120K per year. |

if u wana start ur networking carrer in Lan den windows and linux are best choices. if u wana be a wan expert then adopt cisco side. both specialised in their own field. U can also use them combine if u have know how about both products.
