We have WIndows 2000 Pro SP4 installed. We will not be u[grading. We've installed a new DVDRW into the system but find that the autoplay abilities when inserting the DVD into the drive isnt consistently working and the video player we want set isnt being autoloaded when it does autoplay.

What tool can i use or the location i can go to to definitiuvely set the autoplay ability of the DVDRW for DVD movies and where can i set it so that Media Player Classic (the hacked better Media Player) can play them? Again the system is Windows 2000 Pro SP4.

I've already tried installed Windows Media Player 9 and even Media Player Classic (ste to play DVD videos) but everytime the default(?) win2k dvd player seems to popup. Thats if autoplay even kicks in.

expand the registry tree to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

Modify the value for the NoDriveTypeAutoRun key to 0000 95 00 00 00 (or 0x95 in Regedt32.exe).

This should help you with autoplay feature. I have used this on winxp. Just check it out nothing wrong in doing that.

What is wrong with upgrading?

I had Windows 2000, and XP, and Vista... and now I upgraded for FREE!!

VLC is not hacked, and it blows Media Player into the weeds, from classic to Vista... for multimedia my computer is tooo cool to describe... My friend's computer has 512MB Ram, and is pretty old (about 5 years) and he runs the same OS that I do, albeit with slightly fewer 'super advanced' effects, like 3D transparent desktop cube...

Click below, download, and burn Ubuntu to a cd. Then just reboot from CD (no need to install to take a look - though CD is slower than Hard disk to load up).

Ubuntu linux, unlike Windows 2000/XP/Vista/Server2008 - is Free, and will offer you paths to keep your software update for the next hmmm maybe millenium?

You should see how incredible the difference is between the new Ubuntu, and the version they had just one or two years ago!! It's like going forward in time about 8 years with Windows.....

single click to highlight the .vob file in dvd drive then press "shift + right click" > open with > browse the player in program files\windows media player\mplayer2.exe select that player check for "use this application to run this files"
