Default Help figuring out what is wrong with my old computer. Windows 2000!?

I just dug it out of the garage and i'd like to get all the info off of it. A mouse wont work on it for some reason but thats not the point. I had it up and running and as soon as i tried to open a Quicktime movie or maybe picture on it the monitor went blank like it wasnt connected. I turned off the comp and back on and it wouldnt work. I unplugged it and took it to my fathers house and turned it on and it worked fine until i stupidly tried to open another one of those files. Now it wont work again. When i turn it on now the monitor acts like its not plugged into anything. Theres a little red light on the front of the cpu and everytime the cpu makes a weird noise the light lights up. Any ideas? Seems like the time being off helped it last time. That mean anything?

check your mem cards and all your connections. They may be loose from moving around. I found out that was all that was wrong with mine. I removed and reinserted the memory and it was fine.
