Firewire Windows ME help?

I have a Sony DCR-TRV 730, that I'm trying to record DV footage onto my Windows ME. But when I plug the 4-4 firewire cables in, nothing happens. I have it set to VCR, and DV on. But my system does not recognize it. What can I do?
