Default Can I still run WoW with Windows 98 SE?

I'm about to buy a new desktop for World of Warcraft and nearly everything meets the requirements. The only thing I was wondering about was that the computer has Windows 98 SE, and apparently I need Windows 2000. If i didn't get Windows 2000, would WoW still run with the 98?
(I understand it most likely wouldn't run well on a server like Illidan that's constantly at high population, but what about one like Uldaman that's usually at medium?)

Ah no. Windows 98 is not the same base OS as Windows 2000 (based on NT).

how much would a system with 98 on it run for? id prolly pay someone to haul mine to the junk yard. u can spend 150 on an older intel celeron based computer with a CRT monitor & but a decent PCI video card (assuming u can install windows xp) and it would be good enough for WoW. i play wow on a 1.6ghz sempron OC'd to 2.0ghz w/ a agp wal-mart video card. laughable but it works. i also have my current game rig:

Athlon 64 x2 5600+, 4 x 1gb patriot ram, 2 x 36gb raptor's HDD, 8600GT x 2 w/ a SLI gigabyte board.
