Does Microsoft care at this point if people pirate Windows 98?
They no longer sell or support it. Would they still come after someone who used an unauthorized copy?
For those answerers who think I want to do this myself - I don't. I don't have any particular need for Windows 98, or any other version of Windows - I use Linux. It just occurred to me that I didn't know Microsoft's policy on their obsolete products, and I was curious.
So far I'm seeing a lot of opinions, but no actual authoritative answers.
And to bvnseven: Obviously, depending on the answer to the question, it may NOT be a crime. If Microsoft has abandoned the product and doesn't care if people copy it, there's no felony. Or, put another way, if I thought it was a felony, then obviously I'd already have the answer to my question and wouldn't have needed to ask it in the first place.
