I have an older computer that I gave to someone and I was trying to get hooked up to the internet for him however it was saying that the dial up networking is not detected and is missing a lot of components

so ...... i was wondering if I can install windows XP on that computer (can it handle it)

another problem is that I dont have any cds for the computer such as drivers and such

so what can I do

Windows XP can be installed on surprisingly low system requirements contrary to popular opinion. With the average life cycle of a regular PC being roughly 4-6 years, just about any PC being used today can run Windows XP. Unless you are running Windows 2000 and are in a business environment their is no reason you should be running an outdated and unstable OS such as Windows 95, 98 and ME anymore. The following requirements are Microsoft's "official" minimum system requirements which I have tested to work fine with the exception of only 64 MB of RAM (prefetching performance is reduced). Increasing your RAM to 128 MB would be the only upgrade I would strongly consider as my absolute minimum Windows XP system requirements.

i would try downloading the drivers for it though...i am guessing that is the problem....if you install XP you have to reformat the computer...losing everything that is on there.....make sure you save it all on the internet or another disk or something to get your information back...
