Default why can't I reinstall windows??? It just won't let me! PLEASE PLEASE

PLEASE HELP! I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO! OK, I have just installed 2 new RAM Cards to bring my RAM to 3gb total.

My compuer was built by two IT guy's that got fired from their job for stealing components from their corporate job...

My computer came with some "Issues" but I was working around them but now that the DVDBurner that came with it doesn't work anymore I installed a 2nd and the software in plug n play install says that it 'isn't tested for XP' and causes the whole system to freeze up.

So I backed everything up on my external hard drive and went to reinstall windows from scratch but when I hit enter all it does is show a blinking curser bar and when I hit the power button, the whole machine INSTANTLY shuts down without any delay...

What the hell is going on?

Why can't I reinstall windows?

Is there any program or way around the error that I can try?

PLEASE HELP!
BTW... Windows XP Pro, 3GB RAM, Pentium D 3GHz Dual Core Processor.
What do I have to do to set one to master and the other to slave?
OMFG! THANK YOU!! I have windows set up starting as I type this!

(I'm typing on my father's laptop while windows installs on MY desk top!)

WOOT!

THANK YOU!!

Now I just need to find out how to have both my DVD Burners hooked up at the same time! LOL!
Oh... Yes, the CD is 100% legal... I actually have like, 4 legal install disks... 3 XP Pro and 1 XP Home... And I have about half a dozen 100% legal Product Key's because of the broken laptop's my family have given me to play with and my old computer... Exc.

So I'm set Legal Disk and Product Key wise... ROFL!

Try installing Windows XP with 2GB ram. If that works out for you, go into your System/My Computer properties, click on the Advanced tab and then on the Settings button under Startup and Recovery. In the Startup and Recovery window click on the edit button and add "/3GB" at the end of the change the following line:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Micro soft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

Then shutdown your computer and add the 1GB ram, upgrading your computer to 3GB.

Hope that does the trick.
