My XP is missing system file 32 and the computers auto fix thing is trying to put the factory instilations back on it but it won't work so I found a windows 98 disk lying around. I can't find out how to install it though because I can't start my computer past a certain loading screen.

Get a boot disk for your windows 98 system from here:
www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm Then boot the floppy or your pen drive. Format the partition in which you use the windows XP(optional) 1. Insert The windows 98 cd and type setup in the command prompt. 2. And follow the instructions. It's simple. Note: Your data may totally be lost in some serious cases I'm a great fan of windows 98 and microsoft!! |

You will have to make sure your system is set up to boot from a disc first. So, when the PC starts press the button that gets the bios up usually 1 of the f buttons ( mines f2) it should then have a boot configuration. Make sure your cd/dvd is the top booting device. Then you will have to insert the Windows 98 CD and reboot. This should work. However this will do a clean install and you will lose EVERYTHING on the hardrive. If you don't want this to happen you could try pressing F8 when the PC starts up. This will bring up the options for safe mode and others. Choose 'last know good configuration (your most recent settings that worked). This should take your computer back to a state where it worked. Then you can either continue using XP or install 98 when you are logged on.
