Default please please please please please please help me fix my windows 98!!!!!!!?

first things first. i have tried to restore it to its factory state, but found no way to do so. and a guy on yahoo answers told me there was no system restore for win98.so then i asked if i had to wipe my hard drive or not.which it turned out i had to do that as well. so i made a noobish attempt to wipe it by pressing ctrl-a in the c:\ drive and pressing delete.(please dont laugh) now my system wont start! when i do, it comes up with a message saying invalid system disk. please reaplcethe disk and press any key. so i put in the win98 boot floppy and the win98 setup disk and presses a key. then it came up with 3 choices saying start windows 98 setup, start pc with cd rom support and start pc without cd rom support. if i try the first choice it says it cant install win98 because i already have an operating system installed. the last two choices come uo with a command prompt. pleeeeeeeeeeeeease help meeeeeeeeee!

Hey MagicMan,

Dam you still using Windows 98? lol

Well as far as I know microsoft do not provide much assistance for Windows 98.

In one simple answer, my advice is to format your hard drive and start again by re-installing Windows 98.

This will however, cause you to lose all your files on your PC. On the bright side you will be able to start again fresh.

When loading your PC, put the Windows 98 CD in the disk drive (you will not require the Boot Floppy Disk) and it should ask you three questions like

START WINDOWS 98 SETUP
START PC WITH CD-ROM SUPPORT
START PC WITHOUT CD-ROM SUPPORT

Select option two “start PC with CD-ROM support” which should lead you to the command prompt. When you see the command prompt type the following line.

FORMAT C:\

This will wipe off the existing operating system on your PC.

Once wiped off restart your PC with the Windows98 CD in the drive and then select option one “start windows98 setup”.

Proceed to installing Windows98 on your PC.

Hopefully it will not say that “cannot install windows98 as there is an existing operating system installed.”

Hope this helps
