I am looking for an external hard drive about 500gb and up that works with a Mac and Windows 98SE. I have an old computer with 98SE on it that I want to clean out to an external hard drive and have the data available for use on my 1 year old Mac laptop. I also want to store all my Mac stuff on the external hard drive. Finding one accessible with my Mac is easy but also having it compatible with Windows 98 SE is where I am having trouble. Any suggestions?

I bought a 500gig external Maxor, USB for just over $100. For the Windows, if you have the tower box hardware, the USB PCI card is $20 or less. Look for the card with only two USB plugs because 98se has to make virtual devices every time it boots for USB hardware.

You are lucky you have 98se. It takes the se to do firewire/usb connection. All you need is the pci card.

Or check the Sony card reader USB for 31.99 and shop for 2-gig flash cards.

Or buy an external hard drive kit. You get a power brick and a USB to ribbon connector for the hard drive. Less than 25 bucks.

I like my Maxtor 500-gig. It is capable of video work. I wished it was firewire is the only thing. firewire will transfer longer at a higher burst rate.

I have a LE Cie edmini, this has Mac, Windows and Linux shares as well as ftp and http access, all via ethernet or USB.
