I knew the answer to this at one point in my life. I've since forgotten. I do know it's possible because I remember doing it once!, so don't give up

You can't really. You need to put another one on after that.On your Firewall is best. Then you can't get into your system.Don't
know which one you have.If your only using windows firewall.Go to File Hippo and get a good one.Free. |

You COULD passsword protect the PC via the BIOS password. So you have to put one in just to start the PC. But it IS risky...do it wrong enough times (5 to 10 times depending on model) & it WILL lock the machine (Laptops are a nightmare - needing resetting at factory / good PC shop)...desktops - taking out the BIOS battery for an hour.

Either change the registry manually, or create a batch file text.bat that contains the following: (note, this also shows you the registry key to change) (DO NOT put the spaces in the lines, I put them before the = and the \ to make them readable)
Regedit 4 ;Require Logon to access Windows [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \Network \Logon] "MustBeValidated" =dword:00000001 |

when you initially installed windows 98 you were informed to enter a password or just click "ok" if you didnt wish to use a password in the future
if you clicked ok then no password screen would appear any more, here is a useful link to a site on windows 98 passwords....http://www.helpwithwindows.com/windows98/tune-10.html good luck mate ! |
