...wireless network? I use a WEP key so why is windows vista asking me to enter in credentials or whatever. What would the username and password be? shouldnt it just ask me for the security key?

By default, Vista asks for your logon credentials every time you make a change to system settings. The WEP key is a systems setting so you will be prompted. Enter the user ID and password you use when you first log on to your computer. Then you'll be able to enter the configuration details for your wireless including the WEP key. Once you're entered the details you should not be prompted for credentials again unless you try to change any systems settings.
