Default Is Windows XP 64-Bit better than the 32-Bit Version ? [Please read before answering]?

I own a desktop computer with Intel DG965RY motherboard, Intel Pentium D processor, Geforce 6600 graphics card, 1GB RAM and 160 GB HDD. I have been facing problmes with my Windows XP Professional as the vedor sold me a pirated copy. Most of the games I play on my computer either crash or do not run at all. I have been told this is mainly due to an outdated version of Operating System.

Hence I have decided to go for a genuine Windows XP Professional edition with Service Pack-2. Should I go for a 32-Bit version or the 64-Bit one ?

Please recommend.
