At present, is Windows xp 64 bit more stable then Windows vista 64 bit?

I am currently running xp pro 32 bit. From what I understand, to upgrade to 64 bit, you have to do a fresh install so I am trying to decide between xp 64 or vista 64. Anyone have any experience with either?
