ive just bought a new hard drive beause i had the blue screen of death and as ive loaded windows xp back on to my laptop it says ( a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer )

What is the model of your laptop and what XP SP is it? I may have a fix for you.

Could be another hardware issue! Bios virus or something! that's always fun to deal with! Take laptop to qualified repairer who can pud hdd in another machine to check its integrity they may be able to help.
